Full disclaimerIntroduced that April, Bill 2 — the Protect Ontario Through Free Trade Within Canada Act — receives Royal Assent. It gives the Ontario government and the LCBO the legal authority to negotiate and operate direct-to-consumer alcohol arrangements with other provinces.
This is the enabling legislation Ontario needed before it could sign its bilateral deal with Nova Scotia nine months later, and before it could join the nine-province Operating Agreement the following year.
